The Animal Protection Society (APS) of Durham runs our local county shelter and provides temporary safe haven to the homeless animals in our community. We proudly support the APS and encourage you to consider adopting your next pet from the thousands of pets the APS cares for each year.

Beyond Fences

Beyond Fences (formerly The Coalition to Unchain Dogs) is a nonprofit volunteer organization dedicated to improving the lives of dogs who are kept outdoors on chains. As volunteers with this organization, we’ve seen firsthand how their work not only transforms the lives of these dogs, but also positively impacts their families and the wider community.

Independent Animal Rescue

Independent Animal Rescue’s (IAR) mission is to rescue and provide safe and responsible care for homeless, abandoned, and abused animals. A network of foster homes, IAR has been helping the homeless animals of our area since 1994.

Freedom Ride Rescue

We are proud to be the dog lovers who rearrange our schedules to transport dogs across the state to their waiting foster homes, stay up late scanning shelter listings for the next “Freedom Ride,” and spend countless hours making rescue possible.

Delicious treats, made in Durham! 10% of all proceeds from treat sales go towards local animal rescue organizations.

HOPE ANIMAL RESCUE

Hope Animal Rescue is a 501(c)(3) all-volunteer, foster-based nonprofit dedicated to rescuing, rehabilitating, and rehoming abandoned and at-risk dogs across North Carolina. Their mission emphasizes compassionate care and helping dogs find loving, permanent homes, while supporting community members in responsible pet care.

saving Grace

Saving Grace is dedicated to reducing euthanasia rates and promoting adoption across North Carolina. The organization focuses on creating lifelong matches between deserving dogs and families by placing them in stable, nurturing homes. Through support, guidance, education, and service, this volunteer-powered group works to create a positive and lasting impact within the community.

Lap of Love

Lap of Love provides veterinary hospice and in-home euthanasia. They can help guide you in determining when the ‘right time’ is and help dogs and cats make a peaceful end-of-life transition in the comfort of home.

Unleashed, the Dog & Cat Store

Unleashed, the Dog & Cat Store is locally owned and operated by founders Amy and JP Phinney. The store’s mission is to provide high-quality products for dogs and cats at accessible prices, supporting their health and happiness.

Kind Pest control

Kind Pest Control takes an environmentally responsible approach to pest control. The company provides services for a wide range of pest issues, including spiders, ants, beetles, cockroaches, rodents, and termites. With a commitment to sustainability, Kind Pest Control partners with One Tree Planted to fund the planting of one tree for every service performed.

All Dogs Allowed

All Dogs Allowed is a training and enrichment center originally based in Cary, NC, that recently opened a Durham location. The facility offers group classes, day training, and private sessions. Its team of qualified trainers focuses on creating an accessible, inclusive, and engaging learning environment for both dogs and their people.

Paws4ever

Paws4ever Animal Sanctuary in Mebane is a limited admission shelter that supports the broader animal welfare community, including partnerships with open-admission county shelters. Paws4ever offers positive-reinforcement dog training classes and adoption opportunities for those looking to welcome a new companion.
